Xiaomi drops Mi Power Bank 3 that can charge a laptop

XIAOMI is often known for its modest pricing yet robust electronic offerings and has garnered a massive following in Malaysia due to that fact.

Most recently the Chinese tech brand rolled out yet another one of its impressive product –MI Power Bank 3 Pro Edition.

The sleek device boast 20000mAh battery capacity with two-way fast charging technology.

Beyond that, Xiaomi has included a USB Type-C port which is capable of supporting up to 45W fast charging while the other two standard USB Type-A ports can deliver up to 5V at 3A.

The Mi Power Bank is not just another high capacity power bank. Xiaomi claims it is capable of charging notebooks and even Apple MacBook Pro models (amazing)!

Supported by an onboard circuit chip, the Mi Power Bank 3 features a lithium polymer (Li-Po) battery. The chip protects the device from short-circuiting in the of overcharge.

And, the USB Type-C port two-way charge feature enables the device to be charged using the same port.

Further, it supports pass-through charging as well, a handy function, whereby it can be plugged in overnight with other devices connected to it. The devices will be charged first followed by the power bank itself.

Reports suggest that it may take up to 11 hours for the Mi Power Bank 3 to be fully charged using a standard 10W charger, and with 45W-supported power brick, the charging could be slashed to four and half hours.

The product initially went up for pre-sale on Xiaomi’s Tmall page and subsequently removed, suggesting that it was mistakenly listed prematurely.

However, the Mi Power Bank 3 Pro Edition will cost about US$29 ( RM120), and like most other Xiaomi product, it will become available in other markets, several months after initial launch in China.

Currently, several similar products are available in the market including Aukey’s PB-XD26 and Oppo’s SuperVOOC power bank that retails at RM329 and RM240 respectively, which are far more expensive that Xiaomi’s offerings.

It remains to been seen when it will be rolled out in Malaysia, or the price tag that will be slapped on Mi Power Bank 3.

Either way, it is indeed exciting nonetheless that a more affordable yet powerful USB-C charger is making its entry to the market, addressing the demand for increased power supply, for an increasingly connected world.
